How Regatta outran the competition

When the Hawkshead clothing chain went into administration, there was strong competition to buy the business. Outdoor clothing group Regatta was one of those in the race and used Berg Legal as its adviser. Speed was of the essence, not only to beat the others but also to ensure an effective rescue.

Working against the clock, the Berg Legal team secured the deal within days. Regatta managing director Keith Black said of the team: “We were hugely impressed with the straightforward approach taken and the superb advice during a frenzied week.” Senior partner Reuben Berg added: “We had to be incredibly efficient to make it to the finishing line before our competitors.”

£25m acquisition in under a month!

Berg Legal advised asset-based lender Davenham Group plc on its £25 million acquisition of Manor Credit, which provides asset-backed funding for commercial vehicles and construction equipment.

The deal had multiple benefits for Davenham, such as expanding its product offering, its geographic presence and its customer base, but it wanted to complete as swiftly as possible. The Berg Legal team finalised the deal within just four weeks. Davenham’s chief executive David Coates said Berg Legal deserved ‘a great deal of credit for the swift execution’. He added: “They understand our business and provide effective advice.”
